I managed 6k words over the weekend, bumping my overall count to 11k, on my Thanksgiving/Christmas romantic novelette, The Kids’ Table. I have one chapter left and I’ll be done before December, bone diggedy! Then it’s on to The Reverend Carol’s Christmas, another short romance. Hopefully I’ll be finished before New Years but it’s no deadline. I want to enjoy my writing AND my holidays. (And not throw my neck out again.)
What kind of romances? I got schooled on proper terminology on KBoards. Don’t call a romance-without-sex CLEAN because it’s a judgmental label that implies sex to be DIRTY and wrong. I was advised to use SWEET. But there’s cursing and humor in it? Oooh, that’s not sweet. It isn’t?!
So I’m inventing my own label. LOTS OF SMOOCHING, MILD CURSING, HUMOR, AND IT ENDS WELL AND YOUR KID CAN READ IT AND SO CAN YOU WITHOUT GOING TO HELL.
That’ll rope the readers in, by golly. Also! The holiday stories are going to be a series. It all takes place in the lovely coastal town of Swanhaven. Long may she sail. But for the Swanhaven stories to be a series I’ll need to come up with a third right away. Er. That requires thought…
